At the 52nd annual American Music Awards, Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas performed together.
Rock That Body, a classic song by the Black Eyed Peas, took up the prize for greatest retro song of the year at the star-studded event on Monday night.
Following the announcement that Black Eyed Peas had won, Fergie unexpectedly appeared onstage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rappers will.i.am., 51, Taboo, 50, and apl.de.ap, 51, joined the 51-year-old singer onstage to accept the award alongside her “longtime friends and brothers.”
The song was released in 2009, a year before Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas performed their song “The Time (Dirty Bit)” at the 2010 American Music Awards.
After 16 years as the Black Eyed Peas’ lead vocalist, Fergie quit the group in 2018 to focus on her solo music career.
On Monday night, Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas shared the stage at the 52nd annual American Music Awards.
When their song, Rock That Body, earned the greatest throwback song of the year, Fergie, will.i.am., Taboo, and apl.de.ap all took the stage to claim the prize.
During their acceptance speech, the four artists alternated using the microphone.
The last one was Fergie, who took the opportunity to honor her 12-year-old son Axl, whom she has with her ex-husband Josh Duhamel.
“What a moment,” Fergie remarked after her winning speech on stage. “I want to express my gratitude to all of the fans who voted for this so that I can now stand here with my brothers and longtime friends, the Black Eyed Peas.”
“Rock That Body in honor of this unique song, this era.” “There are a lot of memories associated with that,” she added.
She mentioned that her preteen son finally began to listen to the music she had previously created with the Black Eyed Peas because of their song, one of many that were seeing a comeback thanks to TikTok and social media.
“To all of our supporters who have produced content over the years, thank you so much,” she continued. “I want to thank everyone who made TikToks and Instagram videos and making this moment so that my son would put our song on his playlist.”
She exclaimed, “Sometimes, the content you make is so big and the feelings are so big for me.”
