As Kim Jong-un cashes in with a nuclear move, the EU is furious with Biden’s incompetent foreign policy.
An MEP has alleged that Joe Biden’s ill-advised approach to North Korea has prompted Kim Jong-un to revive the Hermit State’s nuclear program, in what he described as a “worrying development” for international peace.
The International Atomic Energy Association said in a report released on Friday that North Korea appears to have restarted a nuclear reactor that is widely thought to have produced plutonium for nuclear weapons, emphasizing the isolated nation’s efforts to increase its arsenal. Mr. Biden’s administration, according to Dutch MEP Michiel Hoogeveen, who represents JA21 in the European Parliament, is guilty of a failing to grasp North Korean mentality, which could enhance the risk of future conflict.
Mr Hoogeveen has visited the hidden country on several occasions and wrote a book about his experiences called The Hermit Kingdom, which was published in 2018.
“It demonstrates Trump’s rapprochement plans are now a thing of the past,” he told this publication.
“Yongbyon – the center of North Korea’s nuclear program – was an impediment at the Hanoi talks between North Korea and the Trump administration.
”In exchange for sanctions relief, Kim offered to deconstruct Yongbyon.
”Even when the talks broke down, Trump reiterated his willingness to continue.
”And I believe if he had been allowed a second term, he would have done so.”
Mr. Biden, on the other hand, was pursuing former President Barack Obama’s “failed strategic patience tactics” on North Korea, while being under great pressure following Friday’s twin suicide bomb assault in Afghanistan.
“Anxiously waiting for North Korea to reach the point of near-collapse, so they can offer to negotiate a deal themselves,” Mr Hoogeveen continued.
“However, that is not how North Koreans operate. North Korea reestablished the military hotline with South Korea last month.
“However, the US has continued to press for military drills with South Korea, which the North regards as a serious danger (just like we regard a North Korean nuclear test as a major threat).”
Mr Biden has pressed ahead with “full force,” Mr Hoogeveen suggested, in a move that “puts any chance of negotiations with North Korea on denuclearization at risk.” While Mr Trump eased up on the military drills, referring to them as “senseless war games,” Mr Biden has pressed ahead with “full force,” Mr Hoogeveen suggested, in a move that “puts any chance of negotiations with North Korea on denuclearization at risk
“Trump’s North Korea policy was far from ideal (as we have seen.”Brinkwire Summary News,” Mr Hoogeveen remarked.
