As another 40 migrant boats cross the Channel, the French demand that the UK pay up cash.

A BORDER Force boat brings migrants to Dover yesterday following reports that 1,115 people made the perilous journey on Friday and Saturday alone.

At least 40 vessels crossed the English Channel then, bringing the number of people to reach British shores this year to 18,000.

Britain is withholding the £54million it offered to fund extra French patrols in frustration at the continued crossings. Home Office insiders said the Government stands by the commitments it has made but it “just wants to see results”.

France has called for the UK to hand over the cash and says Britain must reduce its “attractiveness” to migrants. Interior minister Gerald Darmanin said: “Not one euro has been paid. We are asking the British to keep their promises of financing because we are holding the border for them.”

Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said the nations are working together “effectively” but improvements can be made.
