As a result of Macron and Merkel’s rage at Boris Johnson, the EU has issued a warning that UK tourists may be barred from entering Europe.

THE EUROPEAN UNION could clash with the United Kingdom if Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel try to prevent British tourists from entering the country, according to a Europe expert.

Member states adopted the first stage of a rescue plan Tuesday, indicating that the EU is working to recover from the coronavirus crisis. On Tuesday, EU finance ministers adopted a coronavirus recovery plan for 12 of its members, which includes grants and loans for Germany, France, and Italy. The national recovery initiatives offered by finance ministers will also aid Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Latvia, Spain, Luxembourg, Portugal, and Slovakia.

The Recovery and Resilience Facility, which is worth £571 million, intends to “power European economic recovery by supporting member states’ reforms and investment projects.”

However, Europe is concerned about the Delta edition of COVID-19 and how it would jeopardize the EU’s recovery plans.

Kevin Featherman, an expert on European matters, told This website that this might lead to European politicians prohibiting Britons from vacationing in the EU.

“The major European countries do not have the same vaccination rate, and they are concerned about the Delta variant increasing in the UK,” said the London School of Economics professor.

“They think Boris is a bit of a gambler who might get himself into trouble. Clearly, the Boris strategy is fraught with danger.

“Either it works in the UK and this third wave is managed, or it doesn’t work, we have over 100,000 infections a day and the NHS can’t cope, and the challenge from a European perspective will be what to do with British tourists.

“Since the Mediterranean governments rely on UK tourism, we may see pressure from Paris and Berlin to say, ‘Stop visitors from Britain,’ regardless of what Madrid or Rome say.

“So we may easily see a political flare-up in August based on the fact that the UK’s easing approach hasn’t succeeded, and there’s a feeling that British travelers must be prevented.

“There will be political strife within the EU, as well as between the EU and London. ‘What in the world have you been up to? That’s the stupidest risk I’ve ever taken.”

France announced fresh limitations on the United Kingdom, Spain, and Portugal yesterday.

President Macron unveiled a package of actions targeted at containing the fourth wave of Covid in France, which is being driven by the delta.
