Casinos can reopen from August 15 after they were put on hold at the last minute.

Music venues, comedy clubs and theatres can now also throw open their doors as restrictions are lifted.

UK casinos were set to reopen on August 1 in England, along with bowling alleys and ice skating rinks, which are now also allowed to reopen, but the lifting of restrictions was put on hold.

The Betting and Gaming Council said the resumption of operations is a “welcome relief” to more than 12,000 people employed by the sector.

However, it added, the sector faced tough times ahead as the industry gets back on its feet after land-based casinos lost substantial amounts of money after five months of closure.

Chief executive of the casino and bingo company Rank John O’Reilly said: “Our Grosvenor venues are ready to safely open and we are working hard to ensure we receive the support of Government to reopen our casinos soon.

“Our colleagues are very keen to get back to work to pick up the progress we had been making prior to lockdown.”

Each facility must operate strict guidelines which include social distancing and proper hygiene to stop the spread of the virus.

Players who visit the casinos must use hand sanitiser upon entering.

Visitors will also be asked to enter the building one at a time.

Table capacity limits will be enforced and face coverings will be provided to guests who request one.

Slot machines will be cleaned after every use and ATMs will be sanitised every hour at a minimum.

Casinos in Scotland and Wales will remain closed for the time being, though the Scottish government has indicated that such venues will be able to reopen on August 24.

The Welsh government website says that there are no proposals at the moment to reopen nightclubs or casinos, but this is constantly under review.

Employees should be trained regarding the new guidelines to ensure guests are in compliance with the new measures.

Contact your manager to find out more information about training before returning to work.

New hand-washing routines are expected to be introduced and staff are likely to be told to wear a mask.
