A carjacker who had been living in the country illegally was shot and killed by a parent from Texas after attempting to take a car while the man’s family was still inside.
The man seen on camera approaching the driver’s side door of a white automobile parked in a lot in the city of Garland at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday was identified as Jose Ramirez, a 30-year-old Mexican national who is not a citizen of the United States, according to Fox 4.
According to the site, Ramirez doesn’t seem to have lived in Garland either, and it’s unclear when he might have entered the nation.
After the car’s owner allegedly shot more than 10 rounds at him during his attempted carjacking over the weekend, he was declared dead.
The unidentified father was still in the car with his family when Ramirez approached, according to startling security footage.
Then, when the rest of his family hurried away, he leaped out of the sedan and tried to prevent Ramirez from getting inside.
After the carjacker got into the driver’s seat, the two wrestled until the criminal shoved the father out and got up, shutting the back door before managing to get back into the car.
However, the father was able to reach the front door on the passenger side and opened fire.
Jose Ramirez, a 30-year-old Mexican national who is not a resident of the United States, was observed approaching a white vehicle before attempting to take it while a family was still inside. A parent who was in the vehicle later killed Ramirez.
Around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, surveillance footage showed the motorist attempting to remove Ramirez from his vehicle while his family ran away.
Ramirez attempted to steal two other cars before attempting to steal theirs.
Before Ramirez got into the family-of-eight’s car, Tatiana Starks, the manager of a nearby smoke store, said she saw him try to get into other cars.
“I’m just happy that the man was able to protect himself and his family,” she said to Fox 4. “You could definitely tell that he was not in his right state of mind.”
“The fact that the children and the family left unharmed is just a blessing,” she continued.
Lieutenant Pedro Barineau told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that after Ramirez “crashed into two vehicles,” police later established that he had attempted to unlawfully enter two additional cars.
He eventually made his way to the family’s automobile, which was parked close to a gas station off Highway 66, after trying to break into both cars.
Lieutenant Barineau told Fox 4 that the father’s actions “seemed to be self-defence,” hence it is doubtful that he will be charged.
He told the newspaper, “It kind of happened like really fast.”
