Amber Alert teen from Surprise awaits reunion with parents in Nevada

A missing 14-year-old girl from Surprise was waiting to be reunited with her parents Monday after she was found safe Sunday evening in Mesquite, Nevada, authorities said.

An Amber Alert had been issued for the teen after she disappeared from her home Saturday night.

According to Mesquite police spokesman Quinn Averett, 21-year-old Jonathan Carson and the missing girl were found at a service station off Interstate 15.

“After the Amber Alert was sent out, a citizen at the gas station recognized the information and contacted police,” Averett said Monday.

Carson was arrested on suspicion of felony and misdemeanor charges, including battery of a police officer, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice, Averett said.

Officials said Carson was wanted for an outstanding felony warrant for deserting military service and was reported as possibly being suicidal.

Carson was still in police custody Monday.
