After going missing for nine days, a 57-year-old British man was discovered dead near Costa Blanca park.

After going missing for nine days, a British man was discovered dead near a park in Costa Blanca.

A young boy raised the alarm while out walking his dog on Sunday afternoon after discovering the horror in a town an hour’s drive inland from Alicante.

Locals have identified the dead man as 57-year-old David Jackson Pope, who lived in Pinoso and whose body was discovered behind a mound of earth near a park on the outskirts of town.

He was last seen nine days ago, on October 15, when a female friend reported him missing.

As part of an ongoing investigation led by an investigating magistrate, police forensic experts investigated the site where the body was located on Monday.

The Civil Guard is believed to be “keeping an open mind” on the cause of death until the findings of an autopsy, which is due later today.

“The dead man had lived in Pinoso for many years and was a very well-known and pleasant man who rode everywhere on a bicycle,” town mayor Lazaro Azorin told local newspaper Informacion.

The Civil Guard could not be reached for comment this morning.

They aren’t anticipated to make an official comment until the post-mortem is completed, though autopsy results in Spain are typically sent directly to an investigating judge rather than being made public.

Pinoso is a traditional town nestled in the mountains between the provinces of Alicante and Murcia.

It has a population of roughly 7,500 people and is known for producing wines, rock salt, and marble.

The name Pinoso is derived from the pine trees that thrive on the surrounding slopes. Its official languages are Spanish and Valencian.
