A heartbroken uncle has described his disbelief after learning his nephew was struck by a family car.
The 41-year-old, who asked to not be named, said he couldn’t believe the news following the tragic accident in Angle Vale, north of Adelaide, on Saturday.
‘He was Daddy’s boy,’ he told Adelaide Now.
‘He just followed his Daddy everywhere.’
Emergency services were unable to resusciate the two-year-old, the youngest of six, after he was run over by the vehicle in the backyard of the Whitelaws Court home.
Police have seized a white Toyota Prado Landcruiser 4WD as investigations continue into the incident.
Officers were also seen combing the backyard for evidence.
The toddler’s uncle said his nephew had only recently celebrated his birthday and that the animated two-year-old was full of life.
‘Everyone just loved him. he was so full of joy.’
The uncle had been at his home nearby when he got the call from his mother that something had gone wrong.
At first he thought it was just a misadventure and the child had fallen over.
Though news of the terrible accident has sent shockwaves throughout the community.
The uncle said that the boy’s 39-year-old father had fallen to pieces.
He described the relationship between the father and son as close as the pair would regularly do woodwork together.
While he admitted the boy had his ‘cheeky’ moments he brought smiles to everyone’s face.
Not long ago his aunt taught him how to plank and balance on his arms.
According to neighbours, the family had been renting the home in the quiet cul-de-sac since the beginning of the year.
