A TAXI driver has been sacked after appearing to smoke crack cocaine behind the wheel in broad daylight.
Firm Addison Lee boasts on its website that it is the “most trusted” business and premier car hire company in London.
But one of its drivers has been given the boot after he was filmed inhaling smoke from a substance burned in tin foil as he sat in one of the company’s Ford S-MAX cars during the afternoon.
In the footage seen exclusively by The Sun, the man can be seen heating a white substance on the aluminium, before breathing in the smoke it produced.
A shocked resident spotted the smoking driver on a busy tourist road in West London at the end of last month.
He told The Sun: “I was doing some DIY on my balcony and noticed an Addison Lee driver pull up and start discreetly smoking crack, or some other drug, off foil.
“It’s a really busy road as it’s near some tourist attractions and on a busy bus route, so the first thing that I noticed was how he pulled up just really casually at about 4.45pm.
“There are loads of people walking by and it seemed a bit unusual for him to just be sitting there, and at first I thought he was smoking in his car.
I realised that he was actually smoking some kind of drug off of a bit of tin foil.
“Then I realised that he was actually smoking some kind of drug off of a bit of tin foil. It looked like crack, but I’m not entirely sure that’s what it was.
“He just held it when people walked past, but as soon as they had gone on he started inhaling it again.
“Had he been on the other side of the road, there’s a lot less footfall but he didn’t seem to care that people were all around.
“The car was there for about 20 minutes. I didn’t contact the police because I didn’t think they would show up in the 15 minutes that he had been there and then it would be a waste of their time.
“I’ve used the company in the past, and stopped for other reasons, but I’m not sure that I would use them again after this.
“The fact that he drove off after inhaling whatever it was is dangerous. It’s pretty brazen to do it on a main road mid-afternoon.”
A spokeswoman for Addison Lee said: “We are grateful this has been brought to our attention and are taking this issue extremely seriously.
“Having reviewed the footage and spoken with the driver, we have taken the decision to terminate their contract with immediate effect, and have reported the matter to Transport for London.
“We ask drivers to adhere to the highest standards of conduct and we have a zero tolerance policy on the use of any illegal substances.”
