According to the royal butler, the Queen’s customs are “not going to work” for modern William and Kate.
THE QUEEN’S royal protocol traditions are “not going to work” for younger members of the monarchy, according to a royal expert.
Her Majesty, 95, will be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee next year, and after 70 years as monarch, she is sticking to tradition. However, Grant Harrold, who served as butler to the Queen, the Prince of Wales, and the Duke of Cambridge, feels that there will be a lot of change in the future.
“Traditionally with royals, there was that guideline for everyone where royals gazed but didn’t touch,” he explained.
Mr Harrold has subsequently seen that younger members of the Royal Family, such as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who stepped down from royal duties in early 2020, don’t always obey Her Majesty’s regulations. Displays of affection and engagement with the general population are two examples he gives.
“We’re seeing change, which has to happen and change in order to live,” Mr Harrold told this website.
“Historically, so many royal marriages have clearly failed, so it’s encouraging for us to see the younger royals and their spouses being so obviously in love, and that they are truly in love and best friends,” he continued.
“I think that’s also significant because we know it’s working and that when they lead us, they’ll be united.”
The royal etiquette specialist examined Her Majesty’s customs, including the few public displays of affection she made with her late husband Prince Philip, who died in April at the age of 99.
“The Queen and Prince Philip didn’t really display affection, but there have been situations throughout the years where you see him giving her a peck on the cheek or sit fairly close to each other, especially in recent years,” Mr Harrold added.
“Those are things that royals have never done before.” I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Queen hug a child at an occasion; it’s just not something she does.
“The current royals have to be like that, whereas the Queen gets away with it because she’s the Queen and has always been like that.”
“I think if they [the younger royals]revert back and become more like what has worked well for,” he continued. “Brinkwire Summary News.”
