A FLIGHT attendant has explained what to do if you are late for your flight – and you can still try to get on the plane.

Kat Kamalani, who has gained popularity on social media by sharing secrets of being part of the flight crew, explained why you should still head to the gate even if you think you have missed your plane.

She explained to her 745k followers on TikTok: “We’ve all been there. We are running late to our gate, we are panicking.

“Here’s the first thing you need to do. Always, always still go to your gate if your plane has not departed, or even if you’re a few minutes late.

“The reason being is a there could be a delay and you could possibly get back on the flight.”

She went on to explain that agents at the gate will start putting people who are on standby – such as off-duty flight crew or other passengers who missed their flights – into those seats.

But you could still get them back.

Kat continued: “If you are late to your flight, what happens with the gate agent is they start putting standby people on those seats.

“Those are the people who had bought their tickets but waiting for their seats or people who work for the airlines and waiting for a seat if there is an open one.”

She said that if you are nice, they will try and get you back on the flight. If not, they won’t even try.

She finished by saying: ‘”If you go to the gate being angry and mad, I promise you these gate agents are just going to put you on the next flight.

“They are not even gonna worry about it. But if you are kind, pleasant and sweet, maybe there’s a chance these gate agents will help you out on that flight.”

Many people agreed – one person said it was “good advice,” adding: “I’ve been surprised the number of times I’ve been given an advantage or had a gate agent go out of the way to help when I was just nice.”

Another person shared their own experience: “Yes! One time my gate was closed, but they got permission to reopen for me because they were waiting for the pilot.”

Someone else wrote: “Facts. The gate agent said he gave it to someone in standby already. Asked super politely, if he would go get my seat back. He did. Love him.”

Others warned that if you have checked luggage, you have less of a chance as it has probably already been unloaded from the plane.
