During a workout gone bad, a gym-goer avoided death by avoiding being crushed by a 145 kg barbell.

On May 5, the man in the orange weight belt, pink pants, and black tank top tried to bench press the hefty bar in a gym in Guangdong, China.

However, rather than breaking his own record, he came dangerously near to getting hurt.

The man lost strength mid-lift while trying to bench press the barbell upwards in the dramatic moment that was caught on camera.

The weights started to fall dangerously near his chest as his arms shook and exhaustion set in.

The man’s cheeks flushed from the strain as the barbell started to crush his neck since he could no longer keep 145 kg away from his body.

To escape being crushed, his only chance was to slide out from under the bar.

The man wriggled away from behind the 145 kg barbell, spinning on his side and then fiercely thrashing his legs in the air. It was a question of life or death.

On May 5, a gym patron in Guangdong, China, barely avoided being crushed by a 145 kg barbell.

The moment the man lost his power and the barbell fell on him was captured on camera.

The man barely avoided a possibly catastrophic gym mishap by wriggling free in a life-or-death situation.

Following his escape, the man stands in amazement with his hands on his knees and holds his hand to his neck.

The fact that the man was on the verge of being crushed was unknown to other gym patrons.

While another man sat through the entire episode on his phone with earphones in, the man next to him on the weights bench continued to work out while struggling for his life.

Luckily, the man narrowly avoided what could have been a deadly gym mishap; the only casualty was the drink cup he kicked over.
