After being freed by the police, a mother and her two small children were shot dead in the street, and her husband has since disappeared.
After her mother, Valerie Deboe, 55, was shot and killed, Hailey Dempsey, 28, fled her home and ran half a mile with her four-year-old daughter and four-month-old infant.
About seven in the morning on Sunday, residents of Plant City, which is close to Tampa, heard gunshots on West Tever Street and discovered the family in the bushes next door.
When paramedics arrived, Hailey was still alive, but she passed away in the hospital. According to officials, a third youngster was saved from the scene unscathed.
Deboe was shot once, and her body was discovered by Plant City Police during a raid on the family’s North Burton Street house.
Residents in the area took pictures of Hailey’s husband, 27-year-old Jay Dempsey, when he was arrested.
Neighbours, however, said he was freed because there was insufficient proof. No one was detained in connection with the killings, according to police.

Along with her mother and infant sibling, the couple’s four-year-old daughter (seen at birth) perished.
John Czarniak, a neighbour who lives adjacent to the family’s home where Deboe was discovered, claimed that on Friday, Dempsey and his wife got into a furious fight.
Hailey contacted the police, who came to the house but quickly departed.
Then, on Saturday night, he saw Dempsey loading a big duffel bag into his car and donning a ballistic vest.
“He came walking out of the woods at 3am (on Monday), got in his dead wife’s car and drove off,” Czarniak said. Dempsey left town after being released from detention and subsequently erased his social media accounts.
Friends lamented Hailey, saying she was a wonderful mother and that she and Dempsey had lately talked about their daughter’s birthday celebration.
Dempsey is an enthusiastic shooter, as evidenced by the many images on his now-deleted Facebook page of him shooting and posing with firearms.

Between 5.30 and 7 a.m. on Sunday, police requested that anybody with surveillance or doorbell camera footage of North Burton Street, West Tever Street, or the adjacent neighbourhood get in touch with them.
“The investigation is very active, searching for leads and clues that allow for forward progress and proper resolution in this case,” police stated. “The Plant City Police Department knows of no credible threats that lead to a belief that there is a threat to the public at this time.”
