The truck driver was arrested and designated as a “subject of interest.” “After conferral with prosecutors, she has been released pending further investigation,” the police stated in a statement to PEOPLE. She denied being involved in the crash and was released as of Wednesday.
Investigators will keep gathering evidence for prosecutors, who will ultimately determine whether to file charges against the driver, according to a police spokesperson.
Capt. Jacob Becchina told the Kansas City Star, “These are complicated investigations that often take several weeks to complete. It is important to get all of the evidence compiled to present a comprehensive picture of the events.”
“We’ll cooperate fully with the Kansas City Police Department in their active investigation and defer to them for additional details,” Amazon said in a statement expressing their “deepest sympathies” for the family of the four-year-old.
They further stated that delivery drivers are engaged by other businesses rather than by Amazon.
The independent delivery service provider is cooperating with the inquiry, according to police confirmation.

The four-year-old was described by a school employee as a “refreshing little kid” who was usually smiling. “The child was at school yesterday,” the source told the Kansas City Star. “What do you tell three, four, and five-year-olds that he’s never coming back? He’s the only one missing from the classroom today,” she remarked. They are curious and will want to know why. For the majority of our kids, we can explain why they don’t return to school. Their mother wants them back at home, but they moved away. “But what can you say?” she asked the outlet.
