COVID-19 Deltacron Combines Omicron and Delta Strains, and is Mostly Found in Hospitalized Patients.

COVID-19 Deltacron Combines Omicron and Delta Strains! Variant Most Commonly Found in Hospitalized Patients

Medical experts in Cyprus discovered a new COVID-19 variant known as Deltacron.

This new virus has already infected 25 people.

This is concerning because it combines Omicron and Delta strains, which are currently among the most contagious COVID-19 variants.

Government officials and healthcare workers will have a difficult time reducing the rising COVID-19 cases if Deltacron infects more people, especially since they are still dealing with patients infected by Omicron.

The World Health Organization recently identified another variant, IHU, as reported by TechTimes.

Flurona, a COVID-19 and influenza co-infection, has been detected in a few US states.

COVID-19 Deltacron is a brand new COVID product.

Professor Leondios Kostrikis, a biological expert at the University of Cyprus, discovered the new Deltacron variant, according to NDTV’s latest report.

“There are currently omicron and delta co-infections,” said Kostrikis, who is also the head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Molecular Virology.

Initially, laboratory contamination was suspected as the cause of the new Deltacron variant.

However, as reported by Bloomberg, Leondios clarified that the new strain was created by evolutionary pressure rather than recombination.

This simply means that the new COVID-19 variant isn’t the result of a mistake in the lab.

Is Deltacron a Serious Threat?

Medical experts in Cyprus are still keeping an eye on the new Deltacron because it is a new variant.

Although its severity and infectiousness have yet to be determined, Kostrikis believes it may be more contagious than Omicron.

This new strain is mostly found in hospitalized patients right now.

However, experts are divided on whether or not hospitalization was a contributing factor in the appearance of Deltacron.
