Because of allergy concerns, mushrooms have been recalled by Tesco and Sainsbury’s – ‘do not consume them.’

A popular vegetable product has been recalled by TESCO and Sainsbury’s due to a packaging error.

When a product is deemed hazardous for use by customers, a recall is issued. Someone with allergies, for example, may be harmed if an item has an ingredient not listed on the label.

Tesco and Sainsbury’s are the latest large supermarkets to issue a product recall after it was discovered to be harmful to eat.

Customers with allergies should avoid eating the product because it contains an undisclosed component.

Tesco and Sainsbury’s are removing two different types of stuffed mushrooms from their shelves.

The branches that are affected, however, are only in Northern Ireland.

U.M.I Foods’ ‘The Kitchen’ Chorizo andamp; Oak Smoked Cheddar Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms are one mushroom product.

The other is ‘Harvest andamp; Made’ Mini Stuffed Mushrooms with Oak Smoked Cheddar and Sundried Tomato from the same brand.

Both packs weigh 200g and include gluten (wheat) that isn’t indicated on the label.

Food recalls are normally posted on the Food Standards Agency’s website.

“U.M.I. Foods is recalling stuffed mushroom products because they contain wheat (gluten) that is not listed on the label,” the FSA said in a statement.

“This means that anyone with a wheat or gluten allergy or sensitivity may be at danger from the items.”

“In Northern Ireland, these products are only available at Sainsbury’s and Tesco.”

“U.M.I. Foods is recalling the above items from customers and has been recommended to contact the relevant allergy support organizations, which will inform their members about the recall,” the website continued.

“At the same time, the corporation has sent out a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

“This notification informs customers as to why the product is being recalled and what they should do if they have purchased it.”

“If you have celiac disease or an allergy, intolerance, or sensitivity to gluten, do not eat these Harvest andamp; Made Mini Stuffed Mushrooms with Oak Smoked Cheddar and Sun-dried Tomato,” U.M.I Foods informed customers.

“Instead, see whether you bought the Harvest andamp; Made Mini Stuffed Mushrooms with Oak Smoked Cheddar and Sun-Dried Tomato before the impacted use-by date.”

“Brinkwire Summary News” says, “You can do this by snapping a picture of this notice or writing down the use-by-date for reference.”
