In the face of a global power shortage, Russia will increase coal supply to India.

The agreement was signed during the Russian Energy Week Forum, which took place in Moscow from October 13 to 15.

Russia presently delivers roughly eight million tons of all forms of coal to the South Asian country, according to Russian Energy Minister Nikolay Shulginov.

The agreement also aims to encourage Russian and Indian companies to invest in the development of coal reserves, coal logistics and infrastructure, production R&D, and coal industry education and training.

India, the world’s third-largest coal importer, is currently experiencing shortages. Coal accounts for almost 70% of total energy production.
