Gillian Carty has been chosen as the current chair by SHEPHERD and Wedderburn.
The company announced that Ms. Carty would be working closely with the other partners and Andrew Blain, managing director, to set the strategic course for the next three years.
In 1993, as a trainee solicitor, Ms. Carty joined Shepherd and Wedderburn and became a partner in 2001. In the Scottish insolvency industry, she is “highly regarded” specializing in insolvency and finance-related litigation, and will continue to counsel clients since taking over as chair.
She is also a registered insolvency practitioner and is qualified as a specialist insolvency practitioner by the Law Society of Scotland.

She headed the company’s commercial litigation and regulatory department prior to her election as chair and supported the company’s human resources policy as a member of the board, taking a particular interest in supporting diversity and inclusion programs and chairing the social responsibility committee of the company.
Ms. Carty replaces Paul Hally, who, after two consecutive terms, was first elected chair in 2014 and stepped down.
She said, “Paul has led by example, mentoring many young lawyers who have gone on to successful careers in private practice and with many of our clients. We are a people firm, and this commitment to identifying and developing talent and supporting diversity is fundamental to our work and our ability to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations of us. It is a privilege to have been elected to the role of Chairman, and I look forward to working with my partners, colleagues and clients.”
