Entrepreneurs generate £4 million in income after starting their business with only £5,000 in savings.

Krisi Smith and Mike Turner, co-founders, turned their passion for loose leaf tea mixology and £5,000 in savings into a multimillion-pound company.

The company began in a spare bedroom in 2012 and has grown to 13 locations throughout the country, as well as a phenomenally successful crowdfund of £600,000 and increasing. Bird & Blend Tea Co., formerly Bluebird Tea, offers over 100 different tea flavors, including unique blends like birthday cake and monkey chops.

The innovative loose leaf tea company made £4 million in revenue in 2021, and they believe that it would have been £5.6 million if all of their locations had been operating.

Krisi and Mike started the business with £5,000 in savings and worked market stalls from their back bedroom for the first year.

In its second year, the company applied for and received a £25,000 government loan to fit out its first store in Brighton, which has now been repaid and allowed Bird & Blend Tea Co. to open on the high street.

The brand has always had a devoted and ardent following, and clients from its market stall days continue to patronize it.

Their Instagram account has 56,000 followers, and their Communi-TEA community is quite active.

The TEAm, which employs over 125 people across its stores, offices, and ecommerce site, now expects to generate more than £30 million in revenue over the next three years.

With the retail industry collapsing as a result of the pandemic, ecommerce retailers witnessed a surge in popularity, which is why enterprises like Bird & Blend Tea, which operates in a hybrid environment of physical and digital work, succeeded while so many others failed.

During the epidemic, Bird & Blend Tea Co. opened three more outlets and launched a new website, unlike many other small businesses.

This was fueled by their customer research and knowledge, which included figuring out what kind of user experience they wanted and how they were most likely to get it.

The company has also recently gone through a crowdfunding campaign, giving customers the opportunity to buy a piece of their favorite tea company.

The original goal of £300,000 was met in less than 24 hours on the Crowdcube campaign, which is still continuing.

With 1,000 investors, the campaign has surpassed its goal by 200 percent and shows no signs of slowing down.
