Easyjet cuts hand baggage allowance by half and sets fees

After having agreed to halve the baggage allowance for passengers paying cheaper fares, the UK’s biggest budget airline has come under pressure.

Most easyJet passengers will be restricted to a small bag that fits under the front seat from Feb. 10, 2021.

“This will allow them to carry all their travel essentials or enough for a short trip.” the airline says.

To carry your luggage on board, travelers will have to pay extra.

A suitcase measuring 56cm x 45cm x 25cm can currently be carried on board by all passengers without any weight cap – one of the few airlines to do this.

This will be reduced to 45cm x 36cm x 20cm from next year.

In 2018, Ryanair implemented similar rules. It notes that only passengers with priority bookings, including a 55cm x 40cm x 20cm suitcase, can carry two pieces of hand luggage into the cabin for free. Just one 40cm x 25cm x 20cm suitcase can be taken for free by all other travelers.

One review looked at an Easyjet one-way flight on April 1 from Manchester to Faro, where the regular fare is £ 62. The minimum supplement that requires two carry-on bags is £ 21 – a third of the cost is raised.

Only holders of Flexi tickets or easyJet Plus cards will be permitted to carry two bags, consisting of a suitcase and a small handbag, on board.

The airline said the new regulations are due to restricted room for bags on board: “The limited space in aircraft overhead bins has meant that customers cannot always be sure they can take their carry-on luggage on board.”

“The new policy will also reduce boarding waits and other associated delays caused by excess hand luggage being stowed in the hold, and so the move will lead to improved punctuality for all customers.”

Disgruntled easyJet passengers with flights already booked expressed anger at being asked to pay for luggage.

One woman wrote on Twitter, “Just got the email explaining the changes to hand luggage.

“They write that carry-on luggage must be placed under the front seat. What clown came up with this idea? “
