Zooey Deschanel has been dubbed the “Twee Queen” by fans, but what exactly does that imply?

Something from your mother’s (or grandmother’s) closet becomes fashionable again every few years.

The general public becomes enthralled.

The mall’s stores begin to sell modern-day lookalike ensembles.

New faces frequent thrift stores, and social media is almost always flooded with content centered on this fashion trend.

Twee style is expected to make a comeback in 2022, according to TikTok.

On Twitter, the hashtag (hashtag)twee has received over 60 million views.

Not to mention that the look has been featured in trend forecast videos for the year by popular fashion creators such as @oldloserinbrooklyn.

So, what is twee style? You’ve probably heard of it.

Alexa Chung, a British author, is known for her twee style.

According to Merriam-Webster, twee means “affectedly or excessively dainty, delicate, cute, or quaint.”

The term “twee,” which originated in the United Kingdom in the early 1900s, is derived from a mispronunciation of the word “sweet.”

Twee style, on the other hand, is a very feminine and preppy look that incorporates playful vintage pieces.

Think polka dots, teacup dresses, bright stockings, oversized cardigans, and a plethora of hats.

If you were a preteen or a teen in 2011, you were most likely aware of the trend.

Around 2010 and 2011, the twee style made its debut in the United States.

It repurposed 1960s and 1970s styles into a new look that nearly every teen girl aspired to achieve.

Many people simply called the look “hipster” at the time.

As more (hashtag)twee videos circulate on TikTok, more users are becoming aware of the term.

Others, on the other hand, are discovering that they’ve been rocking twee for quite some time.

Zooey Deschanel, who starred in New Girl, was finally able to put a name to her unique, yet eclectic style.

She wrote, “I’d like to thank TikTok for teaching me what twee means,” alongside a video of some of her most iconic looks over the years.
