You may attend a new Olympic Museum exhibition dedicated to sport manga from the comfort of your own home.
Fans of the Olympics and Japanese pop culture will want to visit an exhibition that can be watched in person or online.
The Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, which has been home to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) for over 100 years and in 1993, is hosting the Tokyo 2020 – Sport x Manga exhibition. The temporary exhibition, which is located on the banks of Lake Geneva, shows how manga has shaped its relationship with sport and provides information about Japan.
The Museum will explore this link through manga, in collaboration with the Angoulême International Comics Festival, and how the coronavirus pandemic influenced the year-long suspension of the games.
The Sport X Manga exhibition, with its unique ambiance and design, throws a spotlight on sports manga, a medium that has affected how sport is practiced in Japan since the end of WWII.
The entire Museum has been repainted in Tokyo 2020 colors, and the temporary display area has been dedicated to this historic Games edition.
Don’t worry if you won’t be able to see the exhibition in person because you won’t be able to travel over. The “Olympic Museum in AR” app will take you on a virtual tour of the museum.
The museum’s interactive displays and features demonstrate how fiction and the role of sport in Japanese society frequently collide.
Explore the zen garden with koi carps and Sakura trees in bloom, as augmented reality sports manga characters transport you to Japan.
Users will be able to relive the lighting of the Olympic cauldron at each of the three Games editions held in Japan, as well as obtain a 360° view of the new Tokyo National Stadium.
