With 35.8 million streams, SMTOWN LIVE ‘Culture Humanity’ smashed the viewing record.


To celebrate 2021, SM Entertainment held a free fan concert named “Culture Humanity.” SMTOWN LIVE. The concert was streamed at 1 p.m. on January 1, 2021. KST and at 11 p.m. on December 31, 2020. EST and at 8:00 p.m. Uh. PST.

With 35.83 million streams, the free New Year’s event broke viewing records and became the Korean streaming concert with the most viewers ever.

A Viewership Record Broke by SMTOWN LIVE “Culture Humanity”

Fans around the world could watch SMTOWN LIVE “Culture Humanity” for free and it was available on multiple channels, including YouTube, Twitter, TikTok and VLIVE.

After the case, it was revealed that in 186 nations, SMTOWN LIVE “Culture Humanity” won 35.83 million streams.

This made SMTOWN LIVE “Culture Humanity” the most watched Korean online concert.

SM Entertainment co-CEOs Lee Sung-soo and Tak Young-jun released a statement about the concert, according to Soompi, saying:

K-pop is not just music, but also a part of the lives of people and a means by which our emotions are expressed and shared.

We wanted to cheer on K-pop fans around the world who have been going through tough times [this year]as we say goodbye to 2020, which was a difficult year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we have planned this free concert in hopes of giving them bright energy and hope for a better future.

In SMTOWN LIVE “Culture Humanity,” NCT performed several songs.

“Culture Humanity” SMTOWN LIVE featured some songs from the NCT of SM Entertainment, and all four subunits, NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream and WayV, performed.

With their song “Ridin'” NCT Dream opened the concert and also sang “Déjà Vu.” NCT U sang “From Home,” “Make A Wish (Birthday Song),” and “90’s Love,” and NCT 127 sang “Punch” and “Kick It.”

“WayV sang “Take Flight” and “Turn Back Time.” “The Riot” with Ginjo was performed by Xiaojun and Ten from WayV, and “Asteroid” with IMLAY was performed by YangYang from WayV.

At the concert, the following artists, who are famous among fans, performed.

The solo works were performed by EXO members Kai and Baekhyun. Kai performed “Mmmh” and “Reason” from his debut solo EP, KAI ( ⁇ ), and Baekhyun performed “UN Village” from his EP City Lights and “Candy” from his EP Delight. For his performance of “UN Village.” Mark from NCT and SuperM joined Baekhyun on stage.

“Criminal” and “IDEA” from his studio album Never Gonna Dance Again were performed by SHINee’s Taemin, and “100,” “Better Days” and “One (Monster & Infinity).” were performed by K-pop supergroup SuperM.

Red Velvet sang “Bad Boy,” “Peek-A-Boo” and “Psycho,” and the new group aespa sang “Black Mamba.” from SM Entertainment. “Yours” was also performed with Raiden by Winter from aespa.

Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation sang “Cough Syrup,” “The Chance of Love,” and “Dream” Kangta sang “Keep Your Head Down.” and TVXQ sang “Four Seasons,” “Happy” and “What Do I Call You.”

At the end of the concert, all the performers came together to play a cover of H.O.T.’s song “Growing Pains,” Super Junior-D&E sang “When We Were Us.” and Super Junior-K.R.Y. sang “Hope.”
