Why did Claire leave The Good Doctor in the first place? Will she come back? Actress discusses her comeback
THE GOOD DOCTOR will return in a few months, but one of the show’s original characters regrettably left at the end of season 4.
When Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) initially started at St Bonaventure Hospital, Claire Browne (played by Antonia Thomas) was a huge assistance and became a close friend of his. She didn’t have an easy time on the ABC medical drama, as she dealt with a lot of heartbreak in her personal life. But why did Claire quit The Good Doctor in the first place, and will she be back anytime soon?
The team went to Guatemala on a surgical mission to aid those in need at a remote hospital in the two-part season four finale.
Claire was particularly moved by individuals who worked there and their patients throughout her time here.
She made such an impression at the clinic that she was offered a position there soon after saving a life.
When it was time for the team to return home, she chose to stay and say her goodbyes to her loving coworkers.

Claire’s departure shouldn’t come as a shock because she had gone through a lot in the previous series.
Claire’s abusive mother reappeared in season three, seeking to be a part of her life again, and she was murdered in a drunk-driving accident, just as they had planned.
She and Neil Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez) declared their love for one another in a hospital bed following the earthquake later in the same series.
Unfortunately, he died of septic shock, leaving Claire heartbroken and sobbing at his bedside.
Thomas made the decision to leave the drama before her contract was up.
After four years on the medical drama, she told Deadline she wanted to “explore fresh creative options.”
According to her IMDB website, Thomas has no other official projects planned up as of yet.
She has, however, expressed interest in returning as a guest star on The Good Doctor.
