Mr Motivator has revealed that his 12-year-old granddaughter Hadassah has died after a five-day battle with meningitis.

The 67-year-old TV fitness instructor announced her death in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Hadassah died in Antigua, where she lived with her mother, according to the GMTV star, who was previously known as Derrick Evans.

Caroline Evans Charles, Hadassah’s mother, is his oldest daughter and stood by her young daughter during her battle with meningitis.

“It’s not supposed to happen like this,” he said in a statement.

Parents and grandparents must go first, according to the circle of life.

“It is against the law to bury your child or grandchild.”

No matter what, we must keep fighting.

“I want everyone to remember to tell their loved ones how much they mean to them every day.”

Hadassah has three siblings, as well as her two parents and grandparents, to care for.

Sandra, Mr Motivator’s wife, has reportedly flown to Antigua to be with her family, and Derrick will follow suit as soon as he is able.

Derrick rose to fame in the early 1990s as Mr Motivator, and was known for his neon lycra outfits and upbeat personality.

As part of the Queen’s postponed birthday honours list in October 2020, he was also awarded an MBE.

This was in recognition of his contributions to health and fitness, which included creating regular online home exercises for fans during the coronavirus quarantine.
