What was the reason for David Harper’s decision to leave Bargain Hunt?

Two years ago, BARGAIN HUNT lost one of its most valuable experts, but why did David Harper decide to leave?

Bargain Hunt has a slew of antique enthusiasts and experts on hand to help each episode’s teams make the best purchases possible.

After 15 years on the BBC One hit daytime series, fan favorite David Harper had to leave.

He developed an interest in antiques as a child, which fueled his appearances on Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip.

David claims that he has spent his entire life surrounded by antiques, as it was a hobby of his parents to go to auctions and look for valuable items.

He began collecting coins and stamps when he was five years old, and his first antique, a Victorian silver-plated basked, was purchased for his mother’s birthday when he was nine years old.

For four years in the early 2000s, David worked as a BBC Radio antique phone-in host, valuing live on-air and answering audience questions.

With a wealth of experience under his belt, David made his first appearance on Bargain Hunt in 2005.

David announced on Twitter that he will be leaving Bargain Hunt permanently in October 2020.

He simply stated that he had “moved on” from the much-loved BBC series.

“Re: Bargain Hunt,” wrote David.

What can I say – thank you all so much for your kind words, likes, and shares after my post yesterday announcing my departure from @BBCBargainHunt.

“Your kind words have completely blown me away, and they are greatly appreciated.”

“Thank you once more.”

“Bargain Hunt Announcement: After 15 happy years on @BBCBargainHunt, I’ve decided it’s time to move on and hang up my golden gavels (I promise I have a few!),” David continued.

“Thank you for the good times and memories.

“Best wishes, and keep an eye out!”

He didn’t stop for long, though, as he made another announcement the following week.

David used social media to advertise an upcoming job where he needed a camera crew.
