SAINSBURY’S will no longer sell certain of its entertainment products, much to the dismay of customers. CDs and DVDs will no longer be sold in any of the retailer’s stores.

Sainsbury’s has announced that in the next weeks, it will stop selling CDs and DVDs in its stores. The supermarket has already begun to remove certain items from the shelves.

Sainsbury’s has informed its consumers that it will cease to sell CDs and DVDs in the near future.

Earlier this year, the grocery retailer began liquidating its entertainment inventory.

It made the choice as a result of a shift in customer behavior.

Sainsbury’s found that less consumers are purchasing CDs and DVDs these days, preferring instead to listen to music and view movies online.

“Our consumers increasingly go online for entertainment,” a supermarket representative stated in a statement.

“As a result, we made the decision earlier this year to phase out the sale of DVDs and CDs over time so that we can devote more space to food and popular items like clothing and homewares.”

In some locations, though, the business will continue to offer vinyl albums.

Other shops aren’t following Sainsbury’s trend, with CDs still available in Tesco, Asda, and Morrisons locations around the UK.

According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), vinyl sales are predicted to surpass CD sales for the first time since the late 1980s in 2021.

“The CD has been incredibly successful for nearly 40 years and remains the format of choice for many music consumers who value sound quality, convenience, and collectability,” according to a BPI representative.

“Although demand has been following a long-term trend as customers progressively switch to streaming, strong demand is expected to last for many years, bolstered by special editions and other valuable releases.

“If some retailers are no longer prioritizing the format, this will open up more opportunities for others, such as independent stores and specialty chains like HMV, to meet the growing demand.”

Customers at Sainsbury’s have expressed their dissatisfaction – and even wrath – on social media in the wake of the revelation.

Many people were clearly disappointed when the grocer decided to stop selling DVDs and CDs.
