‘Weird way to handle spectators,’ says one observer. Neil is booed by GB News supporters as he avoids discussion of resigning.
ANDREW NEIL elicited a mixed reaction from GB News viewers on Monday evening when he returned to the channel hours after resigning as chairman and presenter – only to avoid any discussion on the subject.
Andrew Neil stated on Monday evening, after weeks of speculation, that he would be stepping down as chairman and host of GB Ness after taking a “break” two weeks after the channel’s launch. Former UKIP leader and GB News presenter Nigel Farage, however, indicated that the former BBC broadcaster was not gone for good, and that he would regularly join him on his show as a guest contributor. Many people were dissatisfied that the two didn’t explain the reasons for Neil’s “change of duty” because news of his resignation only broke a few hours before Farage’s broadcast.
Following his departure, Neil returned to GB News to discuss with Farage whether the UK had become too reliant on Chinese investment.
While the two did not speak about Neil’s aforementioned resignation, Farage brought it up while presenting him to the show.
“Joining me to discuss this is someone who I have respect for,” Farage remarked after stoking the argument about China.
“It’s a change of role here at GB News, and I’m sure you’ll find lots of information about it.
“However, Andrew Neil is here as a GB News contributor and commentator, and I’m glad to inform that he’ll be appearing on my show on a regular basis.”
The two then debated China’s impact on the UK before Farage ended the conversation by stating Neil will be back the following week at the same time.
“Thank you so much for joining me, and I hope to see you again next week at the same time,” Farage said. “I appreciate it.”
Many people were irritated by the fact that the entire conversation focused on China rather than Neil’s choice and ongoing participation with the channel.
Following Farage on Twitter, one raged, “Nigel Farage interviews @afneil on @GBNEWS – about China.” Neil’s resignation was not mentioned. It’s an odd way to treat your audience.”
“Well, after seeing Farage interview Andrew Neil, three things spring to mind, Non Disclosure Agreement,” a second said cynically.
When discussing the, a third said, “It’s a little brief.” “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
