‘We ALL agreed to retire, but they deceived me and forced me out,’ says KK Downing of Judas Priest.

As he starts his new project KK’s Priest alongside Ripper Owens, JUDAS PRIEST founding member KK Downing offered a stunning new interview setting the truth straight regarding his involuntary dismissal from the band. “I have every right to be a Priest,” he says. He also clarified why Judas Priest “wasn’t as big as Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden.”

Downing is set to release Sermons of the Sinner, KK’s Priest’s debut album, next month, and the renowned guitarist has spoken about how his new group will carry on the tradition he established with Judas Priest. Naturally, he was questioned about his tumultuous departure from the band, and he flatly denied the band’s claim that he had freely departed. After being replaced by Richie Faulkner, Downing expressed his disappointment that the band made it apparent that he no longer has a place with them.

Downing spoke to BBC Radio about the events that led to his abrupt withdrawal from the second half of the Epitaph World Tour in 2011, which had been billed as the band’s ultimate farewell.

“We all agreed to retire,” he remarked. So, in 2010, I wrote a kind letter. It wasn’t exactly how I felt; I felt like I was doing myself a disservice, and I didn’t like it.

“A lot of things came to a head, so I kind of bailed out, but I changed my mind a few months later. I was talking to Ian (Hill) about joining the tour, but it appeared that they had already decided to stick with Richie. They issued a press release claiming that I had retired, which was not the case… I always assumed there would be a crack in the door and an opening at some point, but it wasn’t meant to be…”

“When they actually announced my retirement, I sent them a second letter explaining the genuine reasons,” Downing continued. ‘Ignore everything in the first letter,’ I said.

“It was obviously simpler for the guys to jump on the retirement bandwagon than to listen to the true reasons I offered. I wrote to the men, and they informed me that the door is permanently shut. Even Nevertheless, they are content with their current situation.”Brinkwire Summary News”.
