One of the most beloved of all the characters on Vikings, Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård), has been missing since season 5B. Now that the final season of the series has premiered on Amazon Prime Video, many fans are hoping to see Floki before it’s all concluded. The actor who plays him, Gustaf Skarsgård, recently shared a post on Instagram thanking the character.
[Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from ‘Vikings’]
Floki was last seen in a cave in Iceland
Floki is an accomplished and respected boat builder in the series Vikings. He was also best friends with Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), one of the most famous Vikings in the series. Although they had a falling out, they still loved one another, and told each other on their last meeting.
After Floki’s wife, Helga (Maude Hirst), dies, he’s never the same again. He eventually finds Iceland and returns to Kattegat to bring settlers to this new place that he feels is the land of the gods. But when the settlers arrive, there is major drama, and a blood feud starts amongst some of them. Floki can’t take it, and he chooses to go off on his own, leaving the settlement behind.
The last fans see of him, Floki is headed into a cave that he believes is the gate to Helheim, or the underworld in Norse mythology. While hoping to find the gods, he comes across a sculpture of a cross, and in disbelief, he starts to laugh and cry. However, the cave is inside a volcano that erupts while Floki is still inside. Fans see him get buried inside the rubble, and his whereabouts aren’t known for years.

‘Vikings’ Season 6B: [SPOILERS] Lose Someone Very Close To Them
Fans have wondered for years what happened to Floki, and with the final episodes now streaming, fans will soon learn the truth. The actor who plays Floki posted a shot of his on-screen counterpart from an earlier season to his Instagram teasing the final episodes that are now streaming. Floki can be seen in what appears to be Iceland looking off into the distance. Skarsgård tagged a number of actors from the series in the post as well. He thanks Floki in the post saying, “he will always live on forever in my heart.”
Skarsgård captioned the post on Instagram with: “The end of an era! All the final ten episodes of Vikings are released today on @amazonprimevideo in the US, @hbonordic in Scandinavia. What a journey. Massive gratitude and love for everyone involved. And a special thank you to Floki, he will always live on forever in my heart.”
Does Floki return for season 6B?
Floki will return for the final two episodes. Ragnar’s son, Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) and his wife, Torvi (Georgia Hirst) have traveled far and wide searching for the Golden Land. Ubbe originally travels to Iceland to search for Floki, but he doesn’t find him. Instead, he learns about the Golden Land, and has his mind set on finding it. After finding Greenland and establishing a settlement there, they face many hardships. However, they eventually find the land they’ve been searching for.
Once they land on the pristine shores of The Golden Land, the Viking group eventually encounter Native Americans. Their leader, Pekitaulet (Carmen Moore), can speak their language, and they soon learn it’s because Floki landed there as well. In episode 19, the Native Americans take them to see Floki, who has made a treehouse-style home.
“These people have always taken care of me,” Floki explains. “I would not have survived without them.” Floki found a boat and left Iceland, but he was weak when he arrived, and the Native Americans brought him food and made him better.
Ubbe asks why he left Iceland, and Floki says, “I left when the sadness became too much. I was overwhelmed. I was imprisoned in sadness. I felt deserted by the gods. I called to them, but I no longer heard their voices. The world made no sense.”
The series ends with Floki and Ubbe sitting on a beach looking out at the water. Floki returns before it’s all over, and it’s nice to know he’s with a son of Ragnar at the conclusion of Vikings.
