A statement about the latest harassment allegations against her co-star Shia LaBeouf has been released by “Pieces of a Woman” star Vanessa Kirby. Kirby has said that she is standing with victims of violence with the release of the film on Netflix coming soon, something that is a theme in the film.
Allegations of sexual, physical and psychological violence by FKA Twigs against Shia LaBeouf
LaBeouf is charged for violence, sexual harassment and causing emotional harm by actor, actress and model FKA Twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett.
They met after co-starring in Honey Boy, which is based on LaBeouf’s childhood. He also wrote the film’s script.
She alleges that he mentally and physically abused her. In the lawsuit, when she was in a car with him and he was driving recklessly, she refers to one specific instance. She says that he unbuckled his seat belt and claimed that if she didn’t say he loved her, he would crash the car.
She claims he followed her out of the car after pleading to be let out, and threw her into the car, pushing her to get back in.
“Among other things, the lawsuit states: “For too long, LaBeouf has sought to justify his reprehensible acts as the eccentricities of a ‘artist’ free-thinking.’ While his history of violent activity was well known, LaBeouf has been viewed by many in the media as a harmless figure of fun, which has helped him continue his cycle of harassment of women over the years.
There is nothing funny about women being manipulated and abused.
FKA Twigs emphasized that for financial reasons, she did not file the case, but that she hopes this would illustrate that famous women can also be victims of violence in the public eye.
A statement was released by Vanessa Kirby
Kirby released a statement to The Times of London shortly before the film’s Netflix release (as reported by The Independent). “I stand with all survivors of abuse and respect the courage of anyone who speaks their truth,”I stand with all abuse survivors and respect the courage of everyone who speaks the truth to them. However, she noted that she is not in a position to talk about the case itself. “In regards to recent news, I am unable to comment on an ongoing legal case,” the statement continued.
Shia LaBeouf is extremely paranoid about being spied on via his phone: ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’
Violence is a theme played by LaBeouf in ‘Bits of a Woman,’ in which Kirby is in a dysfunctional relationship with her husband.
The film also stars Ellen Burstyn, Molly Parker, Sarah Snook, Iliza Shlesinger, Jimme Fails and Benny Safdie.
The official description via Netflix of the movie reads:
Martha (Kirby) and Sean (LaBeouf) are a Boston couple whose lives are changed irrevocably when a home birth ends in an unimaginable tragedy on the cusp of parenthood.
Thus starts a year-long odyssey for Martha, who must deal with her grief while living with Sean and her dominating mother (Burstyn) through broken relationships, along with the publicly reviled midwife (Parker), whom she must face in court.
Pieces of a Woman is now in select theaters and will be released this Friday on Netflix after its performances at the Venice Film Festival and the International Film Festival in Toronto.
