Olivia Rodrigo, who made her debut at the MTV VMAs 2021, had scored five nominations at the coveted award show where she ended up winning the big two i.e. Best New Artist and Song of the Year. Olivia also bagged the Push Performance of the Year. The young pop singer turned heads for her debut performance at the ceremony as she looked stunning in laced-up gloves and a tie-dye tutu.
The teen sensation, who has been dominating the charts and the streaming platforms since January 2021 took home the Song of the Year Award for her hit single ‘Drivers License’. Olivia’s track was pitted against other top songs like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘WAP’, BTS’ Butter’, Dua Lipa and DaBaby’s ‘Levitating’, 24K Golden’s ‘Mood’ and Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak’s ‘Leave the Door Open’.

Taking to the stage with her Moon Person trophy, she delivered a lovely speech saying, “I want to thank all of you guys the fans. This is so incredible. She continued, “This has been the most magical year of my life and it is all because of you guys so thank you so much. Thank you to the VMAs and everyone who helped me make ‘Sour.’
The singer then added, “I want to dedicate this award to all the girls who write songs on their bedroom floor… speaking your mind and sharing your work is one of the most beautiful things in the world.” While her loyal fans were more than elated to see their favorite artist winning, a majority of them dubbed the award show as “rigged.” Speaking of awards, artists namely Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and Lil Nas X were other big winners of the evening.
