‘There were more youngsters in English schools than there were in Scots.’ Gavin Williamson slams absenteeism.
GAVIN WILLIAMSON has responded to complaints over lost school time by stating that English schools are open for longer than those in Scotland.
The Education Secretary was interrogated about the return of students to school this September amid fears of an increase in Covid infections. Gavin Williamson has stated that he will “move heaven and earth” to avoid closing schools once more, but has not ruled out the possibility. Nicola Sturgeon was chastised by the cabinet minister for closing schools for lengthier periods of time in Scotland than in England.
“As you will know, English schools have a lot more children than Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Ireland schools,” he remarked on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.
It comes as the government tries to urge parents, secondary school children, and college students to participate in optional asymptomatic Covid-19 testing, amid fears that the return to school in England in September may trigger a fresh wave of infections.
