Having a strong first week, Meghan McCain is not back on The View.
After her maternity leave, the conservative co-host returned on Monday, but soon found herself at odds with her co-hosts. Joy Behar assured her on Tuesday morning that she was not going to be missed, and Whoopi Goldberg shut her down on Wednesday to drag a segment out.
Why did Meghan McCain upset Whoopi Goldberg?
McCain had to talk about the Georgia special election on his second day back on The View from maternity leave. As Democratic challengers Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock were predicted to win their respective races, it was a poor night for Republicans. On the ABC talk show, Warnock was a surprise guest and things became tense.
With McCain, something was wrong and viewers could sense that there was something different. He told a sweet story as the ladies spoke to Warnock about calling his mother to break the news to her that he would be Georgia’s next senator.
“She was thrilled, but not overly impressed,” he said, while adding that his mother reminded him that she was still in charge.
The co-hosts of The View laughed at the anecdote, except for McCain, who maintained a stoic face all the time.
Is WTF mistaken for Meghan McCain? Senator-elect Warnock tells his mother a sweet story…. All the co-hosts at #TheView found it adorable and chuckled at the anecdote, but not Meghan…. Look at that cold face of ice…. When it came time to ask McCain a question of Senator-elect Warnock, she asked about Democrats “packing the courts.” Warnock did not provide an answer to McCain’s satisfaction, insisting on the same question.
The senator-elect did not fall into McCain’s trap and instead focused on explaining that Americans are more concerned about health care and a paycheck than packing the courts.
Whoopi tried to intervene, but McCain kept talking over her, respecting the moderator’s role.
Fed up with being interrupted, the “Sister Act” star raised her voice, shut McCain down and ended the interview.
“Hey, listen up! We’re going to thank Senator-elect Reverend Raphael Warnock,” Whoopi says as the show’s music plays for the commercial break and she shakes her head.
This was the second day in a row McCain has been shut down by Goldberg, following her incident with Behar the day before.

At the end of the show, Brian Teta, executive producer of The View, made a rare appearance on the show.
Teta appeared to give context to what had happened earlier in the show, which may have caused tension with the co-hosts.
“What happened at the end of Act 1 and the beginning of Act 1, we didn’t have the senator-elect at the beginning of the show, which messed everything up, the time was very long,” Teta explained. “At the end of the act, I and some other people were screaming in Whoopi’s ear, ‘We need to go to intermission.’ No problem, no drama, just our mistake.”

The interview with Warnock took more time than anticipated, so they rushed to get to the commercial break as quickly as possible. With all the people screaming in Whoopi’s ear, that might have been the reason she got upset and raised her voice to McCain. However, if McCain could also hear the producers’ voices, she should have held back and not insisted on wearing down Senator-elect Warnock.
The View airs weekday mornings at 11 a.m.
