The tiniest town in the United Kingdom was transformed into an Oktoberfest-style party town, complete with oompah bands.
Llanwrtyd Wells, the UK’s smallest town, awoke this weekend to the sights, sounds, and smells of a Bavarian wonderland, as the entire town was transformed into an Oktoberfest-style festival. Residents were treated to oompah bands, processions, and beer tents in a Teutonic takeover designed in collaboration with Florian Seidel, director of the Bavarian National Museum.
Pretzels, bratwurst, and “kellners” handing steins to happy residents provided an authentic experience of Germany.
The celebration comes as study revealed that Christmas markets, pretzels, and bicycles are among the finest German exports, alongside Oktoberfest.
Ludwig van Beethoven, supermodel Heidi Klum, and luxury carmakers BMW and Audi are among the country’s other notable exports.
“Outside of Germany, we know the UK is the number one Oktoberfest enthusiast,” a spokeswoman for PerfectDraft, which organized the mini-festival and gave households their own draught beer equipment, said.
“With it being canceled for the second year in a row, we wanted to go above and beyond bringing fantastic Oktoberfest draught beer to people’s homes this year, and truly urge Brits to turn their living rooms and kitchens into their own beer tents,” says the organiser.
The study of 2,000 adults also discovered that the average Brit consumes three pints of beer per week, with lagers being the most popular in the north and south west.
In the meantime, individuals in the East Midlands prefer stout, while those in the north east and West Midlands prefer IPAs.
“I’m very glad we’ve been able to offer our legendary Oktoberfest to fans in the UK,” said Florian Seidel, director of the Bavarian National Museum.
“PerfectDraft has been a wonderful host, providing a true sense of Bavaria to our small Welsh town.
“This year, I’m delighted we’ll be able to honor our traditions – and, more importantly, our beer – in style.”
PerfectDraft has manufactured two limited-edition Festbier kegs for Oktoberfest. Lowenbrau Oktoberfest and Spaten Oktoberfest are two of the beers available.
In addition to the limited-edition Oktoberfest beer kegs, four exclusive candles, Lederhosen, Bavarian Field, Pretzel, and The Tent, have been created to bring the delicious aromas of Bavaria into your home scents.
