There’s good news and bad news in this shocking Nintendo Switch pro prediction.
A new Nintendo Switch console could be on the way to compete with the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but that would mean foregoing a fun mid-cycle refresh.
According to new analyst predictions made this week, Nintendo may forego plans for an upgraded Nintendo Switch console, commonly referred to as the Switch Pro.
Since the original Switch was released in 2017, gamers and market watchers have been waiting for Nintendo to reveal a mid-cycle refresh in the form of the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
However, only an OLED refresh has been made available so far, with little to no changes to the handheld system’s core components.
There have previously been rumors of a 4K console powered by new Nividia technology, and there is no reason to believe Nintendo would pass up such an opportunity to expand the brand.
However, one analyst has made a new prediction, claiming that Nintendo will forego a Switch Pro console in favor of a new machine.
The only problem is that it would leave Nintendo without a new flagship device until 2024, while the PS5 and Xbox Series X continue to grow in popularity.
The important thing to remember here is that Nintendo has never attempted to compete with PlayStation and Xbox in terms of graphics, so they may not be concerned about outdated hardware that was released in 2017.
Piers Harding-Rolls of Ampere Analysis shared the new report with GamesIndustry.biz as part of a larger feature on gaming predictions.
“I’m currently expecting the console market to be quite flat year-over-year in 2022 as Switch sales decline and we come off what has been an incredible couple of years for console gaming,” the full post reads.
“Even so, the Nintendo Switch family of devices will be the best-selling consoles in 2022, with around 21 million units sold to consumers, aided by the release of Switch OLED I’m not expecting a Switch Pro in 2022.”
“I’m not convinced a ‘Pro’ model will appear at all, as we have a next-gen Nintendo console in our forecasts for late 2024.”
The combined sales to gamers are expected to be around 28 million.
“Supply for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox One X will continue to be available.
