On the other hand, the Bake Off final on Channel 4 drew 6.9 million viewers on the same night.
The premiere on Sunday drew slightly over 8 million viewers, the lowest in ten years.
The new series has been dubbed “dull,” “flat,” and “sparkless” by many critics.
I’m A Celebrity is being recorded at Gwrych Castle in Wales, as it was last year, due to Covid limitations preventing it from being hosted in Australia.
“I think viewers miss the show being in Australia,” a source said, “but it’s better to have it on the air than not at all.”
Celebrities Richard Madeley, Danny Miller, David Ginola, Naughty Boy, and Dame Arlene Phillips formed the red team and competed in a head-to-head challenge in the inaugural episode of the long-awaited show.

Frankie Bridge, a former Saturdays star who competed against TV personality Richard, was the first to win a trial.
The Turrets Of Terror, a three-level structure, was part of the job.
Frankie, 32, has already been tipped as the bookies’ favorite to win the competition, with Emmerdale’s Danny Miller coming in second.
Naughty Boy, a DJ and music producer, lived up to his moniker when he was discovered smuggling spices into the camp in his sock.
The 36-year-old music producer, whose real name is Shahid Khan, had his illegal seasoning removed by show executives right away.
To the Bush Telegraph camera, Naughty Boy revealed: “Before I left, I ground some spices that could make rice and beans taste a little better, so I stuffed them into my sock. This is the recipe for my Naught Masala. Cumin seeds, cloves, turmeric, and coriander seeds are among the ingredients.
“Eating bland food is a crime, according to my mother!”
Richard had this to say about spice gate: “Naughty Boy had definitely lived true to his moniker. He sneaked something in for camp. That, I believe, is a true mark of character.
