The contract of the one-cap Arsenal washout now includes a £42 million release clause.

Ismael Bennacer made just one appearance for the Gunners in a 3-0 defeat to Championship side Sheffield Wednesday but the midfielder is now valued at £42 million by current club AC Milan

Former Arsenal flop Ismael Bennacer has a £42million release clause in his current contract at AC Milan with European giants PSG and Manchester City weighing up their interest in the midfielder.

The 22-year-old spent two seasons with the Gunners but made only one senior appearance in the League Cup.

A 3-0 defeat to then-Championship side Sheffield Wednesday was enough to convince manager Arsene Wenger to never start the teenager again.

Bennacer was subsequently limited to youth-team fixtures before being flogged to Serie B side Emploi where he began to rebuild his career.

After a title-winning season in his debut campaign, Bennacer’s performances in the top-flight were enough to secure him a move to AC Milan in 2019.

Arsenal did have an option to match Milan’s €16m (£13.5m) bid but Unai Emery chose not to activate the buy-back clause.

Since then Bennacer’s career has gone from strength to strength with the midfielder winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria whilst also being named Young Player of the Tournament.

Fansite acmilaninfo allege the 22-year-old has a €50m (£42m) release clause in his contract with the likes of PSG and Manchester City ready to test the Rossoneri’s resolve.

Now Italian outlet Forza Itlaian Football report Milan are in talks with Bennacer over extending his stay at the San Siro due to his increased importance within the team.

The Ivorian expected to run out the remaining months of his contract and leave on a free transfer. Tottenham and Manchester United have been linked as potential suitors.

The Red Devils are eyeing the 24-year-old as a replacement for Paul Pogba who rejected United’s latest contract offer.
