The Cast of X-Men ’97 Has Been Revealed.
Marvel Studios unveiled its first X-Men project today as part of Disney’s Disney+ Day event, which is rebooting X-Men: The Animated Series. The title of the revival, X-Men ’97, suggests that it will begin up where the original series left off in 1997. To that end, Marvel.com has confirmed that numerous cast members from X-Men: The Animated Series will reprise their roles in the next Marvel Studios series. Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Alison Sealy-Smith, Chris Potter, Catherine Disher, Adrian Hough, and Christopher Britton are among others who have made the list. While some of these voice performers will reprise their old roles in X-Men ’97, some will play new characters.
The voice cast for X-Men ’97 will also be expanded. Jennifer Hale, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff Bennett, and AJ LoCascio are among the names on the list.
On an episode of the This Week in Marvel podcast, Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, notes, “This is the first X-Men title developed by Marvel Studios.” “What a fantastic way to reintroduce people to the X-Men by focusing on one of the most iconic eras in the franchise’s history, the 1990s. That classic style that began with Chris Claremont, flourished under Jim Lee, and was revived in The Animated Series. X-Men: The Animated Series is a touchstone that we hear over and over again from filmmakers who have come in to pitch on various projects over the years.” “The original X-Men was a predecessor to some incredible action series as an animated show,” says Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, VP of Animation at Marvel Studios. “Everyone involved in the top-down production of X-Men ’97 is a fan. We instinctively recognized what we were doing on this project. To move this series forward and take up the baton, not just to keep running at the same pace, but to actually step it up. That is your obligation.” Beau DeMayo is the head writer and executive producer of X-Men ’97, according to the article. The supervising director is Jake Castorena, while the supervising producer is Charley Feldman. Eric and Julia Lewald, producers and showrunners of the original X-Men: The Animated Series, as well as director Larry Houston, are advising on X-Men ’97.
