The Beatles are a group of musicians who formed in “John Lennon’s death did not impact my life,” George Harrison says.
THE BEATLES’ George Harrison was as shocked as everyone else when John Lennon was assassinated, but the singer was quick to point out that he “couldn’t stay too sad” after hearing the news.
On December 8, 1980, John Lennon, a member of the Beatles, was assassinated outside his house, The Dakota, in New York City. The singer’s death sent shockwaves through the music world, as well as those who knew him best. George Harrison, Lennon’s former bandmate, later stated that Lennon’s death “didn’t impact” his life since he felt he would see him again in the future.
In a 1990 interview, Harrison talked openly about the death of John Lennon.
He was questioned if John Lennon’s death had had any impact on his life. “Well, it hasn’t,” he said.
“Because it would have changed it more if we had still been in a working relationship. The problem was that I hadn’t seen him in a long time. I hadn’t seen him in two years and would periodically send him a postcard.
“It’s also knowing that if you do want to call, he’ll there on the other end of the line. That is the distinction.”
“Now you need the huge cosmic telephone to speak to him,” Harrison continued with a grin.
Despite the sensitive matter, the Quiet Beatle explained why he isn’t too angry when he thinks of his former bandmate.
“I think that life continues on, so I can’t be sad,” he explained.
“I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to play guitar with John, but I already done that.” That was something I did for a long time.”
“So, we’ll meet again somewhere down the line,” Harrison said with a smile.
Despite talking about Lennon’s death, Harrison remembered his Liverpool comrade fondly.
He also revealed to the publication when he last saw the musician alive.
“I was in New York at his residence in the Dakota,” the Beatle recounted.
“He was nice,” Harrison continued. He was just rushing around the house putting the finishing touches on dinner.”
He went on to say that Lennon was listening to a lot of Indian music, which he had “gotten into” over the years despite not liking it before.
Olivia Harrison, George Harrison’s wife, later revealed that George was enraged by John Lennon’s death.
Paul McCartney has been candid about his grief over the death of his dearest friend.
“I’m,” McCartney told CBS. “Brinkwire Summary News.”
