The War Royal, often referred to as “The Bachelor,” has begun.
Although we’ve only seen the first night of Matt James’ season, it’s clear that some of the women are already willing to do anything to win his heart.
As always, on the first night, one woman won and earned the rose for making a first impression. Here’s why Abigail Heringer was given the rose by James.
Abigail Heringer, who’s he?
Not all of them get an introduction kit, since there are so many women vying for James’ heart, but Heringer did. Viewers heard in her package that she was born with congenital hearing impairment and has a cochlear implant.
She lives in Portland, Oregon with her sister and was on leave from her work as a financial analyst before joining “The Bachelor.” She was worried about asking James about her hearing loss, but as soon as she got out of the limo, she told him about it. James promised to pronounce his words more clearly so she could read his lips better.

Heringer and James talked again, once in the new Bachelor digs.
“I didn’t expect to be so nervous, to be honest,” she said to James. “I feel like all I’ve heard over the last few months is ‘Matt, Matt, Matt!’ I was like…. he’s a god or something!”

“To be honest, as soon as I heard your name, I was blown away,” James told her, realizing he didn’t hear anything more than what she had said. “I tried, but you were stunning and it was hard to focus on anything else!”
The first girl to kiss James was Heringer, who reassured her.
She told the cameras, “I was stressed about the time with Matt, but he’s just so easy to talk to and he took it to a whole other level,” “I love it. I’m so excited about it.”
Why was Matt giving the rose to Abigail?
There are several reasons why, for a first impression, a person might give a rose. In the past, she gave it to the person with whom she felt most relaxed or the person with whom she was most eager to meet. It was a little of both in James’ scenario.

“She was so authentic and real,” James told HollywoodLife. In this experience, she did everything I ask women to do without being asked. She was transparent about being deaf, about her family members being deaf, about her experiences, about what to expect from her. It all bubbled out of her and we all resonated. It just felt real. It felt comfortable, and it just made sense to have that kind of connection with someone in a circumstance that was uncomfortable.
The Bachelor airs at 8:00 p.m. on Mondays.
