The first woman to direct a ‘Star Wars’ film will be Patty Jenkins.
On December 10, 2020, Disney Investor Day 2020 was held, where Jenkins was named as the director for the 2023 Star Wars film Rogue Squadron.
The film will concentrate on ‘a new generation of starfighter pilots,’ according to StarWars.com.
The project is a dream come true for Jenkins, and a statement on StarWars.com about her enthusiasm has been posted:
As a filmmaker, it has been a lifelong dream to make a great fighter pilot movie one day.
Some of the most fondest memories of my life as the daughter of a great fighter pilot are watching the squadron of my father take off in their F4s every morning and hearing and experiencing the awe-inspiring strength and grace. When he died in service to this country, in a great film, it generated a burning desire to one day capture all those feelings. When the perfect story came along in combination with a great film

The director has a variety of projects coming up.
For directing “Wonder Woman” and “Wonder Woman 1984,” starring Gal Gadot, Jenkins is known. For the Cleopatra movie, Jenkins will team up with Gadot again. Jenkins has a variety of potential ventures, with the Cleopatra film, Rogue Squadron and a third Wonder Woman on the horizon.
“You could never do it in a year. You could never do a good Star Wars movie in a year or a good Cleopatra movie in a year. I think each of those films probably takes two years,” Jenkins told Collider.
She added, “Of course, by the time I get on set and shoot Star Wars, I could be developing all kinds of other things and pushing them. That’s actually possible. So, I think that’s how people do it apparently, they do multiple things at once, where I’m usually pretty singularly focused, but I’m getting better at it.”
I was fascinated with the Museum of Aviation and Space as a child.
I can’t believe that we have to shoot OUR film there!!! It was a great honor to be right under the plane and things of Chuck;) https://t.co/p372zMjnq5- Patty Jenkins (@PattyJenks) January 1, 2021 Chris Pine hopes that Patty Jenkins will bring ‘new life’ to ‘Star Wars’

While Jenkins was unable to disclose who was writing the Rogue Squadron script, she was able to provide some insight into the writing process of the film.
… But we’re very far along the, we’re basically finishing the treatment, which is pretty high. So it ends up being very close to a script, a well-crafted script, by the time I’m finished with my phase with the treatment,”… But we’re very far along in the, we’re basically finishing the treatment, which is pretty big. So it ends up that we’re pretty close to a script, a well-crafted script, by the time I’m done with the treatment in my process,” “So yeah, we’ve been working on it for a while. It’s going great. I’m super excited about it.”
