Sophie, Countess of Wessex, has a ‘meaningful’ engagement ring from Prince Edward, which she describes as ‘romantic’.
SOPHIE, COUNTESS OF WESSEX married Prince Edward, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II, in 1999, and became a member of the Royal Family. What kind of ring does she have on her finger?
Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward married in 1999 after only a few months of engagement. St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle hosted the couple’s wedding ceremony, which was attended by members of the Royal Family.
Buckingham Palace made the announcement of the engagement.
“The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are delighted to announce Prince Edward’s engagement to Miss Sophie Rhys-Jones,” the statement stated.
Six years prior to their engagement, the pair met at a tennis tournament in 1993.
They started dating not long after that.
Prince Edward gifted Sophie with a stunning ring when he proposed to her.
Charlotte White, Head of Design at 77 Diamonds, spoke to This website about the royal’s engagement ring.
“The Countess of Wessex’s engagement ring, given to her by Prince Edward, was designed by Garrad,” she explained.
Garrad was the UK’s first official Crown Jeweller, having provided Queen Victoria with gems.
Kate Middleton’s sapphire engagement ring, which was previously owned by Princess Diana, was also created by the jewelers.
“It looks to have a big two-carat oval diamond, accented by two 0.4-carat trillion-shaped diamonds on either set, set on a white gold band,” Charlotte continued.
“An engagement ring of this style and quality – D or E color grade and VVS clarity – would generally cost around £20,000 at 77 Diamonds.
“This ring would cost around £35,000 if purchased from several other Mayfair jewellers.
“A trilogy ring is a particular type of engagement ring.”
It has a very specific connotation, according to the expert.
“Three central diamonds are often thought to represent the couple’s history, present, and future, making it a highly romantic and meaningful choice of design,” Charlotte explained.
Sophie has a variety of rings in her collection, but she will always pair her engagement ring with her wedding band.
The sapphire engagement ring worn by Kate Middleton, which is one of the most famous jewelry in the world, is thought to be worth a fortune.
“The royals have always led the way in terms of jewelry, especially engagement ring design,” said Kate Earlam-Charnley, Design Director at Taylor&Heart.
