Season 6 of Outlander: The Showrunners Discuss Young Ian’s “Disappointment”

The showrunners of OUTLANDER went back in time and revisited scenes from season five, particularly Young Ian’s dissatisfaction with Jamie Fraser.

After a dramatic season finale, Outlander fans will be relieved to learn that filming on the forthcoming sixth installment is complete, with a launch date set for 2022 on Starz. Showrunner Matthew B.Roberts and Executive Producer Maril Davis, on the other hand, reflected on the previous season and discussed the scene in which Young Ian’s (John Bell) disappointment with Jamie Fraser was revealed (Sam Heughan).

The fifth season’s episode ‘Monster and Heroes’ was particularly moving, as it depicted Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) on his deathbed.

This wasn’t the first time he was close to death and had to be nursed back to health by his wife Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe).

Jamie was on the verge of accepting defeat for the first time, and he was willing to die rather than have his leg amputated.

Jamie’s decision was not only unexpected, but it also enraged Young Ian, who communicated his dissatisfaction.

Showrunners Meril and Matthew discussed the scenario in which Jamie was confronted by Young Ian in a YouTube video.

“I think Jamie doesn’t want to disappoint people, and the look on Ian’s face suggests he could be disappointed in him like that,” Matthew remarked.

Ian returned after their disaster to apologize for the things he spoke to Jamie out of rage.

Jamie injected, “You were correct to say it,” while Ian responded, “Sorry uncle, I didn’t mean what I said to you before.”

“I really like that chemistry between the two of them,” Matthew continued.

This happened after Jamie and a few others decided to go hunting for food for the upcoming winter months.

Jamie was bitten in the leg by a deadly snake while prepared to take a shot at a bison.

Despite the anguish, he managed to sever the serpent’s head, and luckily, his son-in-law Roger Mackenzie (Richard Rankin) was nearby to drain the venom from his leg.

Roger got lost in the woods while trying to find the others and round them up to help Jamie.

They only realized Jamie and Roger hadn’t made it back to the ridge after the other had returned.

As Jamie’s condition deteriorated, he received a “Brinkwire Summary News.”
