Season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale: Hannah manages to flee Gilead, but June sacrifices herself to save her?
Season four of THE HANDMAID’S TALE presented viewers with even more questions as the story took new twists and turns. June Osborne’s story may finally have a happy ending in season five, but what will happen to her?
The Handmaid’s Tale, based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, recently broadcast its fifth season on Channel 4, and fans are already excited to see what awaits June in series five. June (Elisabeth Moss) has suffered horribly at the hands of the Gilead rule, and her ultimate goal is to protect her young daughter Hannah Bankole (Jordana Blake), who was kidnapped from her as she attempted to flee to Canada at the beginning of the series. Fans have their own theories about what June may face in the upcoming episodes, with some speculating that after everything she’s been through, she may not get a storybook happy ending. Could she, however, put her own life on the line to save Hannah from Gilead?
One fan speculated on how June’s narrative will end on the Reddit message board.
“I believe the nature of the beast she’s chosen (as well as the tone of the program) will not provide her with a clean-cut happy ending where she rides off into the sunset with her family,” they wrote.
One commenter proposed a plausible narrative in which June’s loose ends would be tidied up, but the story would still finish with her death.
“I think she’ll have a dramatic, yet bittersweet ending,” they said.
“Perhaps where she saves Hannah or deals a deathblow to Gilead’s system, but pays the price with her life.
“It’ll most likely be a tearjerker as well, with a dramatic send-off where she urges Hannah to be happy, healthy, and so on. Never allow the b******* get the best of you.”
“I predict she’ll die trying to save Hannah,” another fan wrote. “It’s unclear whether Hannah will be returned to Luke.”
Hannah has been June’s inspiration to keep fighting from the beginning of the series, thus this is a realistic argument.
Elisabeth herself implied that June’s ultimate purpose is to remove Hannah from Gilead while discussing where season five might go.
“Her life is about this war,” the 39-year-old star of the grim series said.
“Her life is dedicated to ensuring a brighter future for her girls. “Brinkwire Summary News” is her mission.
