Season 4 of The Crown: The Scottish filming locations that brought to life the Netflix hit

As “The Crownfourth “‘s season flickered across screens yesterday, several familiar scenes were spotted by observant Scots.

That’s because in the Netflix series – including many coastal towns and the Cairngorm National Park – the breathtaking Scottish scenery formed the backdrop for more than one spot.

The fourth season of the hit series, just released on Netflix, continues the royal family’s tale as the 1970s come to a close and the succession is being secured by Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and her family.

Fans have highly awaited the fourth season of “The Crown,” written by Peter Morgan.

Here are some of the incredible Scottish sites used for filming:

Balmoral – Home of Ardverikie

While the interior scenes for the Scottish residence of the Queen were shot at Hedsor House in Buckinghamshire and Knebworth House, Ardverikie House near Loch Laggan in Scotland, a Tudor manor in Hertfordshire, is used for Balmoral’s exterior scenes.

Since season one, the incredible location has been used for the Netflix hit series – and features breathtaking Scottish scenery that sets Balmoral’s outdoor scenes beautifully.

Braemar Games – Estate of Rothiemurchus

In the wonderful surroundings of Rothiemurchus Estate, the Braemar Highland Games, featured in season four, were filmed.

The Queen, played by Olivia Coleman, wears an understated green outfit on location in the Cairngorms that perfectly suits the green tartan kilts seen dancing in the background.

South Georgia, Iceland’s Hofsa River and Mullaghmore Castle in Classiebawn, Ireland – Caithness.

In season four, Scotland was also featured to represent South Georgia, the Hofsa River in Iceland, and Classiebawn Castle in Mullaghmore, Ireland – which has been used by the Mountbattens for decades as a holiday home.

Caithness’s Lybster Harbour was used to film scenes in Port Leith, South Georgia.
