Russell and Jordan of Changing Rooms discuss the largest error made by homeowners: “People are afraid.”

The newest designers on CHANGING ROOMS have revealed their best redecorating recommendations, including why no one should “follow interior design trends.”

Last month, Changing Rooms returned with two new designers, and this website chatted with them privately about their time on the show. Russell Whitehead and Jordan Cluroe, who are relatively new to the interior design field, know how to make a lasting impression with their bright color choices and imaginative DIY creations. What are their best techniques for altering a room, though?

Changing Rooms was a popular TV show in the 1990s and 2000s, and after a modern makeover, the show made a comeback on Channel 4 last month with a modern-day reboot.

Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen and his leather trousers are back, and he’s joined by Russell Whitehead and Jordan Cluroe, two new designers.

Jordan was the runner-up on BBC Two’s The Great Interior Design Challenge in 2014, for those unfamiliar with the creative talent.

Following his success, the couple felt forced to start their own design firm, 2 Lovely Gays, and were quickly booked to appear on Changing Rooms.

They have been assisting with the transformation of a room in someone’s home with the support of their neighbors over the last few weeks.

Russell and Jordan aren’t afraid to go where few others would with their creative choices, whether it’s making unique artwork with synthetic hairpieces or wrapping a wall with vinyl.

So, what advice do they have for someone wishing to revamp their living space?

Is there anything a homeowner shouldn’t do when it comes to renovating their home’s interiors?

“As a company, we’re all about having the means to do things, not necessarily rules,” Russell explained.

“So, the first piece of advice I would provide is to avoid following trends; it’s all too easy to get sidetracked by something shiny and new, but trends can frequently lead you away from what your clients want to achieve.

“And we always begin with our clients and what they enjoy, as well as what you enjoy as a person.

“So who cares if pink is the most popular color right now; if you despise pink, that’s OK; certainly, don’t wear pink,” he added.
