Mariska Hargitay is best known as Detective Olivia Benson for her groundbreaking appearance in Law & Order: SVU.

For 22 seasons, the series has now been airing, making it the longest-running prime action series ever. The series launched the career of the actor, and there are no plans to quit in the near future.

But it would surprise fans to learn that their dad, Mickey Hargitay, had previously starred in a guest role in the series.

Who was Hargitay’s Mickey?

Mickey was born in 1926 in Budapest, Hungary, and from an early age was an acrobat. During World War II, he fought for the underground resistance against the Nazis. He fled his country in 1947 to avoid Soviet military conscription, according to The Guardian. He went on to have a good career as a bodybuilder, ultimately winning in 1955 the competition for Mr. Universe. He was also an actor who, during his lifetime, married three women: Mary Birge, Jayne Mansfield (mother of Mariska) and Ellen Siano. He had four children, one with his first wife, Tina, and the other three, Mariska, Zoltan, and Mickey Jr., were from Mansfield.

At the Mae West Revue, where Mickey was playing at the time, Mariska’s parents met.

In 1958, they married and then divorced in 1964.

They appeared in four films together prior to their divorce. In 1967, with her three children, Mansfield was in a fatal car crash, but the children luckily survived. According to History.com, Mansfield died along with her boyfriend, Sam Brody, and their driver, Ronald B. Harrison. At the time of the tragedy, Mariska was just three years old, and her father raised her with Ellen, her stepmother. At the age of 80, Mickey died of bone marrow cancer in 2006.

The father of Mariska Hargitay once made an appearance in the series.

Law & Order: SVU: The ‘Bromance,’ which was preferred to the dynamic of Benson and Stabler by some fans.

Mariska, who is known to fans as Olivia Benson, an exceptionally competent detective, had the luxury of working in the series with her father several years ago. In season 5, episode 9, Mickey appears as a witness in a case named “Control,”

The episode starts with Mickey, who plays a little girl’s grandfather, riding a subway escalator. He sees a man named Austin Pendleton (Horace Gorman) whose genitals have been cut off, and watches the man fall down the stairs. Mickey’s character is questioned as the police arrive.

“At first he was just babbling nonsense,” says the grandfather to his off-camera daughter, quizzing him for details. “Then his belly bled like a stuck pig. Next thing I know, boom, he’s falling.”

He states that when asked what he did next, he came down to check on him and the guy was still “babbling to himself” and he decided to call 911. When the grandfather is asked what the man did, he says, “It’s a mistake, it’s a mistake.”

Horace Gorman abducted women and locked them in his dungeon, according to the fan page for the show.

Hilary Barclay (Samantha Mathis), a woman Benson is acquainted with, was abducted by Gorman and previously sexually assaulted. It turns out that when she spoke to Benson about the ordeal, Hilary was intoxicated and Benson did not believe her.

Then he finds Gorman dead in a hotel. Juliet Barclay (Jacqueline Bisset), Hilary’s own mother, admits to both the original act of cutting his private parts off and the murder of him.

But then Hilary confesses, which makes things for the police very complicated.

In Juliet’s antique shop, they locate the murder knife, and when the proof is shown to Hilary, she admits to murdering and castrating Gorman.

While originally, ADA Casey Novak (Diane Neal) wanted to charge Juliet, instead, she decides to charge Hilary.

But as she originally said, Juliet did kill Gorman, but she may not be charged again because of the case’s double threat.

Juliet’s attorney reveals evidence that shows Hilary was ordering coffee at the time of the murder, so she couldn’t have done it.

Although Hilary is arrested for murder, she goes to jail because she is the one who cut Gorman for what he did to her.
