Robert Durst, a property tycoon turned convicted killer, died after murdering a friend.

Robert Durst, a property tycoon who was convicted of murdering a friend, died.

Robert Durst, who was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison, died of a cardiac arrest just three months into his sentence in California’s Department of Corrections.

Robert Durst, the eccentric scion of a New York real estate dynasty who was sentenced to life in prison for murder, died at the age of 78.

He died less than three months after being sentenced to prison for the murder of his friend Susan Berman in 2000.

Soon after, he was charged with the murder of his wife, Kathleen Durst, in 1982.

Durst’s lawyer confirmed his client’s death, telling ABC News that his death “was due to natural causes” caused by a series of medical issues.

He was put on a ventilator after testing positive for COVID-19, according to reports released late last year.

The Westchester native has previously battled bladder cancer, according to the New York Post.

Durst was born into one of New York’s wealthiest families, but he rose to prominence as a result of his misdeeds, which included the disappearance of his wife and the murders of his best friend and a neighbor in Texas.

In September of last year, the billionaire was found guilty of murdering his best friend Susan Berman, who had been dead for over 20 years.

After the murder trial was postponed until March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, a jury spent several hours deliberating in the case over three days.

The 78-year-old claimed he only discovered his friend’s body on the floor in her bedroom after killing his wife and Berman.

Durst allegedly told Berman about his wife’s murder and asked for her assistance in hiding the body, according to prosecutors.

Berman “knew her killer” because there was no evidence of robbery or forced entry, they said.

Kathleen McCormack Durst, better known as Kathie, was on her way to medical school when she vanished nearly 40 years ago.

According to his billionaire brother Douglas, Kathie and Durst were having marital problems, and she wanted to file for divorce.

Her body, however, has never been discovered, and she was legally declared dead in 2017.

Durst lied to investigators five times about his involvement in the deaths of the two women, according to the trial over Berman’s death.

He was jailed for the rest of his life.
